Baileys, 2020
Charcoal on paper
18” x 20”
The charcoal drawing [titled Baileys] was a Drawing 1 class assignment. I had to choose my own objects, rearrange them a few times and sketch them in a small scale. I then had to choose what I thought was the best composition and redraw it in a bigger size. I toiled over this one. I was scared. I was unsure. I didn't think I could do it. I wanted to give up multiple times. I'm so glad I didn't. Even though this piece is dark, still, and kinda somber, it also has a certain regal aura, a quiet strength if you will, to it. This was done in the dead of night, with a low spotlight or two above me.
It reflects some of the personalities within me.
