Cynthia Stickler
Cynthia Stickler is a Brooklyn-based multimedia artist with an undergraduate degree in Art History from Penn State. She has been making art since early childhood, when her father gave her a box of crayons and she set out to “make a color no one had ever seen.” Her work draws on a lifelong visual imagination shaped by an early childhood in Ohio teeming with barn animals as well as museum and gallery visits once her family moved to New York City.
Stickler’s compositions can be dizzying worlds of women, animals, “supernatural beings,” references to classical music and depictions of herself. She feels strongly the work should speak for itself and leaves interpretation open to the viewer. She describes her life as “my father, the dog and the work.”
